CRICKET: Seventh heaven for Taylor
LEFT-ARM seamer Paul Taylor returned stunning figures of 7-37 to set Banbury on the way to a resounding nine-wicket win at Falkland in Division 1 of the Home Counties Premier Division.
The former England man skittled the Berkshire side for 87, and then Banbury cruised to victory inside 19 overs.
With conditions favouring seam bowling, Banbury skipper Benji Hector had no hesitation in inserting the hosts after winning the toss.
And Taylor was quick to exploit the situation, bowling opener Theo Cooke for a duck without a run on the board.
Things quickly got even worse for Falkland as they crashed to 1-4, with their top four bastmen failing to trouble the scorer.
Ben Chapman was run out, Taylor then bowled James Morris, and Ryan Newhook got in on the act by knocking over Khalid Malik.
Taylor picked up his third victim when Jaimie Noble caught Rauf Akbar, and he then trapped Stephen Pope lbw to leave Falkland 13-5.
Ross Gowland and Chris Chandler provided some resistance, but off spinner Jimmy Phillips broke their partnership by winning an lbw decision against the latter.
Taylor then bowled Gowland, and he also removed George Trewby and Nigel Trumper in similar fashion to complete his magnificent seven, with five of his victims having their stumps shattered.
Banbury lost Hector for 13 with the score on 38 as they set about knocking off the runs.
But Chris Smith, with an unbeaten 40, and new signing Damien Shirazi, the Wiltshire opening batsman, saw Banbury home.
