A promising talent on the martial arts scene, 12-year-old George, has been invited for a trial with the England National Karate Team. 

George, a year 7 pupil at Wood Green School in Witney, started his martial arts journey began at the age of seven, training with Oxford Sport and Traditional Martial Arts (OSTMA) under the tutelage of Sensei Sam.

George's rigorous regimen includes training three-five times a week.

His natural competitive spirit took him to national competitions two years ago, and last October he made his international debut in Belgium at the Liege International Open.

Besides representing OSTMA, George was also chosen for the South West England regional karate team.

In 2023, George collected an impressive medal haul's worth boasting about.

He struck bronze at the Liege Indoor Open and scored gold at the E-1 series in London and Elite International Open Harlow.

He didn't stop there and won bronze at the Southern England Karate Open and emerged the top boy in the age 10-11 category when he represented South West England in the 'end-of-year clash' with the other regions.

While 2024 is still underway, but George's winning streak shows no signs of slowing down, adding more awards to his already impressive tally.

He clinched gold at the Murrayama Cup XV, bronze at the EKF Kyu Grade Nationals, gold at the Orleans International Open, France, and a silver medal in the EKF National Championships, his maiden competition in the 12-13 age category.

George had a remarkable milestone two weeks after turning 12 when he was invited for a trial with the England National Karate Team, an acknowledgement only extended to aspirants aged 12 and above.

His first session is scheduled for May 5 in Wolverhampton.

As George's sporting career ascends to the next level, financial constraints loom.

To counter this, his family has set up a GoFundMe page, hoping that sponsorship and support will allow George to continue participating in competitions he needs to attend to flourish in the sport. 

As per his long-term ambition, George aspires to compete at the Olympics and represent England in the Commonwealth Games.
